This recipe for the Thermomix is incredibly simple so you can have dinner on the table in less than 30 minutes, and very little of that time is spent in the kitchen.
What I love about this recipe is that the ground meat cooks in the simmering basket and not in the bowl. This results in a lovely chunky bolognese.
My kids love this recipe and they tell me that it tastes better than anyone else's. But kids always say that right?
The original recipe comes from skinnymixers but I have made some adjustments to suit our taste and to match the ingredients available in the US.
1.5lb ground beef
15 oz can tomato sauce
15 oz can diced tomatoes
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp italian seasoning
1 tbsp homemade stock concentrate (I use the vegetable one from the TMX Basic Cookbook)
Place tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, onion powder, garlic powder, dried oregano, italian seasoning and stock concentrate into the TMX bowl.
Put the simmering basket into place in the TMX bowl. Place the ground beef into the basket, breaking it up as you place it in.
Cook 15 mins/ varoma/ speed 2.5 then give the beef a good mix. Continue to cook for another 15 mins/ varoma/ speed 2.5. Mix the beef again. If necessary you can cook it for a further 5-10 mins/ varoma/ speed 2.5.
(Whilst the beef is cooking, boil water on the stove in a large pot and cook pasta according to the instructions on the packet)
Place the cooked beef into the TMX bowl with the sauce and mix through with the spatula. The beef will be chunky. If you'd prefer it to be a little less chunky just chop for 2-3 sec/ speed 5.
Serve with pasta (spaghetti or otherwise), roasted jacket potato, mashed potato, or use it to make lasagna.
Tip: If you use a smaller quantity of beef, then use only 1 can of tomato sauce and 1/2 can of diced tomatoes. You will find that you can shorten the cooking time too. Start with 20mins/ varoma/ speed 2.5, give the beef a mix and then add another 10-15 mins if necessary.
